After pregnancy or following major weight loss, the skin and subcutaneous tissue that cover the abdomen lose elasticity and become functionally and aesthetically problematic. Abdominoplasty (or mini-abdominoplasty when the relaxation of the tissues is not so significant) is a surgical technique for the removal of excess tissue and the “stretching” of the abdominal surface, flattening it.
How does abdominoplasty work?
The procedure involves a horizontal incision positioned between the navel and pubis, which is concealed by panties. If the patient has undergone a caesarean section, the abdominoplasty scar is placed at the same level as the existing scar. In the event of separation (diastasis) of the rectus abdominis muscles, this can be corrected, bringing them closer together using sutures. For improved reshaping of the silhouette, surgery can be combined with liposuction of the hips.
Abdominoplasty aims to improve the function and appearance of the abdominal region, eliminating excess fatty deposits from this area.
