What is botulinum toxin?

One of the signs of ageing is facial wrinkles, the result of continuous contractions of the facial muscles in association with a loss of elasticity and hydration of the skin. By reducing the contraction of certain groups of facial muscles (the forehead, the medial part of the eyebrow or by the side of the eye sockets), botulinum toxin aims to reduce what we call facial “expression” lines.

How does botulinum toxin work?

Botulinum toxin is injected, painlessly, through a fine needle,in precise doses and into specific points, to reduce muscle contraction in particular areas of the face without altering facial expression, preventing fine expression lines from becoming deep and consequently reducing the signs of age on the face.

What are the results?

The aim of the treatment is to prevent the appearance of wrinkles and/or attenuate their presence if they are already noticeable. Two sessions at 15-day intervals are often necessary (the first session for treatment, the second for any retouching). Afterwards, depending on the patient’s requirements, the treatment can be repeated every 6-9 months, depending on the result desired.
